Stacy Peralta is considered one of the founding fathers of modern skateboarding. He is one of the sports first and most successful professional skateboarders and is number two in the Skateboarding Hall of Fame. He followed his pro career by starting a skateboard company; Powell Peralta which began in 1979 and by 1986 was the number one skateboard company in the world selling close to thirty million in products per year. In 1991 Peralta left the day to day business of his skateboarding company to become a full time film maker. He directed conventional television for several years and by 1999 was premiering his first documentary film; Dogtown and Z Boys at the Sundance Flim Festival where he won the best director award and his film was chosen as the audience favorite. He followed his first film with another documentary film Riding Giants which was the first documentary film to be chosen as the opening night film of the Sundance Film Festival in 2004. Since then Peralta has continued making documentary films as well as directing over one hundred television commercials. In addition to film making he is now a well recieved painter who specializes in painting images of his own skateboarding history.
