Shuya Okino (KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE / KYOTO JAZZ SEXTET)
Music producer, DJ, selector, composer, writer, radio DJ, and owner of The Room. In 2000, his release “ECLIPSE” under the name KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE reached No.1 for three consecutive weeks on the BBC Radio ZUBB Chart in the UK. He is internationally recognized, having been invited to perform as a DJ and artist in over 140 cities across 40 countries.
In 2006, he released his first solo album United Legends. In 2009, he won the Good Design Award for his role as music supervisor for United Cinemas Toyosu, designed by Internationals. In 2015, he launched the jazz project KYOTO JAZZ SEXTET. The group released its debut album MISSION under the prestigious Blue Note label, followed by their second album UNITY in June 2017. That same year, they performed at Fuji Rock Festival’s Field of Heaven stage.
In July 2018, he performed as a DJ at the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival. In 2021, Kyoto Jazz Massive released their second album Message From A New Dawn after a 19-year hiatus. In 2022, Kyoto Jazz Sextet released their third album SUCCESSION, featuring jazz legend Takeo Moriyama, and returned to FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL after five years.
From 2022, Kyoto Jazz Massive has embarked on a European tour under the name Kyoto Jazz Massive with Echoes Of A New Dawn Orchestra.
His publications include DJ Senkyoku-jutsu, Club Jazz Nyumon, and his autobiography Shokugyo DJ 25-nen. He is currently the host of Tokyo Crossover Radio on InterFM (Fridays at 10 PM), and curates Shuya Okino presents Music in The Room on USEN music streaming service channel I-12.
In 2024, Kyoto Jazz Massive celebrated its 30th anniversary with the release of the commemorative EP KJM EOANDO in June, which reached No.1 on the iTunes Dance Album Chart. The track “Impulsive Procession 7” from the EP also achieved No.1 on the Traxsource Broken Beat/Nu-Jazz Chart. In December, they released the 30th anniversary compilation KJM COVERS.
