James McMillan is a self-taught artist, and has been exhibiting and selling his art, including paintings, photos and illustrations, since 1992. He is the author and principle photographer of the best selling book, Blue Yonder (2005), but is probably best known for his signature style paintings. A quick synopsis of his work: Using multi layers of acrylics, spray paint and ink, James creates his quirky and splashy backdrops, upon which he brings to life his carefully rendered subjects, including birds in curious flight, oozy clouds, dreamy treehouses and the regular appearance of ‘Waterbird.’ Along with this he has created his own organic font, which together all exist in a somewhat colourful and otherworldly environment of nature and surreal wonder-filled happenings.

James has completed several projects including his award winning book, and short film, both called Blue Yonder, several zines, mural arts and has exhibited his paintings in Byron Bay, Sydney, New York, Los Angeles, and in Japan at 3 Greenroom art festivals. James is also the founder and Creative Director of Byron Bay Surf Festival.
